One of the biggest surprises of the year was when the first-week numbers for Kevin Gates‘ debut album Islah came out — he sold 112,000 copies, between physicals and streaming.

Released at the end of January, the project has consistently sold in the 20,000-30,000 range every week since, and it’s finally hit the 500,000 plateau giving it a gold certification by the RIAA. (Maybe this Over/Under segment helped give him an extra push.)

This is just two weeks after “2 Phones,” which I’ve heard banging on the radio in Gainesville for a couple months at this point, officially sold over one million copies. A certified platinum single and gold album? Not bad for your debut studio album.

And to top it all off? He’s got two more gold singles (“Really Really,” “I Don’t Get Tired”) lined up behind “2 Phones.”
