Robert Glasper does it again. Following his and Erykah Badu’s beautiful cover of “Maiysha,” the multi-instrumentalist now teams with Illa J for a new track from his Miles Davis tribute album Everything’s Beautiful, “They Can’t Hold Me Down.”
Debuted by Zane Lowe on his Beats 1 Radio show, Robert describes the song as having a “J Dilla-type of feel,” which prompted him to reach out to his younger brother who quickly returned the completed version back to him. See for yourself if it reminds you of the late James Yancey, below.
