Yesterday, Danny Brown returned with “When It Rain,” kicking off a new era in the career of the high energy rapper from Detroit. So to catch up on the last three years since dropping Old, Danny called into Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show to talk how he’s changed as a person and artist, tour life, signing to Warp Records, the influences behind his upcoming album and more.

“You can only sky dive so many times before it ain’t a rush no more,” he highlighted in the interview, noting he’s had to change his lifestyle as he’s grown as a person and an artist. He’s starting to run every day, and, overall, he’s taking better care of his body nowadays than he did in his 20s, he said.

Musicwise, Brown said his next album is like a follow-up to XXX. And while rap is his central focus, his influences extend far beyond to artists like Bjork and Talking Heads. “David Byrne is a legend,” he said. “I try to incorporate that in rap music.”
