The world knows Flying Lotus as a premiere producer. Soon, they’ll know him as a director, too.
FlyLo will make his directorial debut at the Sundance NEXT FEST held in Los Angeles from August 12-14. His short film, Royal, will be shown under his directorial alias, steve, as Pitchfork points out.
According to the festival’s website, each film “is paired with either a special musical performance that embodies a shared artistic sensibility or a conversation with filmmakers and the luminaries that inspired them,” though it’s unclear who FlyLo’s film with come with.
The producer said the film is an “awkward love story” that is night a sight for young eyes.

Earlier this year, FlyLo curated the score for a scratchy, avant garde short film called FUCKKKYOUUU.
Royal may be his first film, but it most definitely won’t be his last.
