After a brief absence for the first six months of the year, Kehlani has found herself dropping her third new song in as many weeks with “Gangsta.”

The song is set to land on the Suicide Squad soundtrack, which arrives at the end of the week. We’ve already reaped the tempered, star-studded “Sucker For Pain” and Skrillex and Rick Ross’ “Purple Lamborghini” from the tracklist, and “Gangsta” adds haunting sonic layer to the rebellious themes of the movie — also out Friday.

David Ayer, the director of the film, phoned in to Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show — where the song was premiered — to talk about the song.

“This is a beast; this is going to smash,” he told Zane. “There was an emotional quality to it — this sort of raw, broken yet strong, haunting quality.”

As soon as Ayer heard it, he immediately wanted to see what it would play like underneath clips of the movie. “It just instantly worked,” he said.
