Azizi Gibson describes his new song, “Levels,” is “something the world needs right now.” The tune has the New York native and newly independent rapper speaking to the youth — more specifically the minorities who come into the world in less privileged situations.
His vocals on the song sound like a happy medium between D.R.A.M. and Makonnen. He ponders, “I know the world is fucked up, it’s so destructive, but what can I do?” before imploring kids to not let the world see them frown. “I promise we’ll turn this around,” putting the responsibility on the backs to the adults to leave a better world for the kids.
The video brings the themes together as Azizi highlights the innocence of the youth playing in street (after wandering a field and flying in a helicopter, because why not).
The song will land on Azizi’s The Ships Have Sailed, which is “on the way.” Watch the video, directed by John Peterson, above.
