It’s been a very, very, very long time since you could consistently say, “I can’t wait to hear Zack de la Rocha’s next verse” (if you ever said it at all).

That time period seems to be coming to a close, though, as the former Rage Against the Machine frontman released the first single from his upcoming debut solo album.

Outside of RAtM’s last album in 2000, de la Rocha has released a short project with the drummer from rock band The Mars Volta and occasionally popped up for guest appearances — most notably and recently with Run the Jewels on “Close Your Eyes (And Count To Fuck).”

The single is called “Digging For Windows” and is produced by El-P (of Run The Jewels and many producing efforts long before that, if you’re new to this). It’s certainly as energetic, political and boundless as you’d expect it to be, rapping “won’t mark the name on a ballot so they can be free to devour our options” and taking aim at the powers that be, as he often has.
