I don’t know why Tears For Fears is making a comeback in my life (I scarcely listened to them in high school amidst my band-shirt-and-dickies phase) over the last month, but they are and I’m pretty comfortable with it.

The 80s pop band was first re-introduced when a sultry cover version of “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” popped up at karaoke night in an episode of Mr. Robot. Then I wound up at an 80s night at a bar downtown after a couple drinks of tequila, and there was Tears For Fears again. And now to round it all out, Mayer Hawthorne releases a cover of “Everybody Wants To Rule The World.”

He’d been performing the cover on his Man About Town tour, but after some berating from those who saw it live, he released a studio version of his twist on the 1985 single featuring a couple additional layers to the song’s synthesizers and scaling guitars.

Hopefully this doesn’t complete the streak of Tears For Fears in The Life of Patrick Glynn.
