The year was 2002.

The Angolan Civil War had finally come to an end, at the cost of over 500,000 people. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City hit shelves, and many hours were wasted on it. And back before it became a rib-crushing, hilariously inappropriate meme, PBS’ Arthur aired its 100th episode.

In 2002, Talib Kweli had released his solo debut album Quality, which was anchored by one of his most popular songs “Get By.” While overseas promoting the project Kweli — as well as Novel — stopped by Tim Westwood‘s radio show, and the two traded bars over Kweli’s “Good to You” instrumental.
