Not that I would ever wish it upon her, but in my opinion the best music from Mary J Blige comes from a place of hurt and sorrow.
Unfortunately, she is dealing with a bit of turmoil at the moment in the form of a divorce from her husband of 13 years. However, it appears that she will be channeling those emotions into her upcoming 13th album Strength Of A Woman, which is slated to drop before the end of 2016.
She has also released its evocative first single, “Thick Of It.” “This song is so personal it’s almost painful to let it out,” says Blige about the song. “I don’t hold back though, it’s not who I am and there’s no way I am going to start changing now.
“We all deal with love and the emotions that we get tangled up in, and we gotta survive, grow and remain honest to our best selves,” she says. “I feel that with this song and it’s the first one off this album I’ve been immersing myself in for 2 years now. Music just saves me no matter what in life is happening.”
