Oklahoma City native Jabee released his Black Future album just over two months ago. The project analyzed the current social landscape of black America, twisting the hardships to hope for a more successful future.

“Penniless,” which Jabee says was inspired by MF DOOM’s “Deep Fried Frenz,” encapsulates that with its themes of togetherness amongst struggle.

He released a visual for the song today. He rides in a DeLorean to a local laundromat, where raps the bars of “Penniless” to pass the time amongst people like him just trying to get their laundry done.

“The video is a symbol of my everyday life,” he told us over email. “[It’s] not glamorous, but the DeLorean represents me going back to the everyday average life. The “Black Future” is where we are headed, and that won’t be average.”

The video was directed by Imageline Studios, and you can watch it below.
