The Gorillaz last left us explaining what the band’s drummer had been up to since their last album in “The Book Of Russel.” (Before that, Noodle had her story shared, too.)

After being held captive in North Korea, Russel found his way to London, where he later got a call from Murdoc — the bassist. “The band was getting back together,” the story told.

It turns out, though, they were forcibly getting back together.

After escaping Plastic Beach years ago, Murdoc got captured by EMI Records and taken to Abbey Dungeon (under Abbey Road Studios) in London, where he stayed for three years. Because “the music industry was going down the toilet,” EMI said they’d release Murdoc if he gave them a new Gorillaz album. And now here we are.
