“Golden Age” rap fans, so-called hip hop “purists” and the like will all just jump for joy upon hearing this.

The legendary duo of producer/DJ Eric B. and lyricist supreme Rakim have reformed after an over 20-year hiatus.

Throughout the past week the Twitter account, @EricBandRakim (Rakim never had a Twitter page, while Eric B’s had his own account), began leaving cryptic tweets throughout the past few days:

Eric B. and Rakim — née, Eric Barrier and William Michael Griffin Jr. — have not recorded any music together in over 20 years, since their fourth (and as of now, last) album Don’t Sweat the Technique in 1992, splitting up over money issues. Since then, the two have released their respective solo albums, with Rakim having a brief stint on Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Records from 2003 to 2003. The two were also nominated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2011, but did not make the final selection.
