The art of storytelling in Hip-Hop music and culture seems to have gone by the wayside in the past few years, and outside of artists like J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar and a handful of other talented emcees, songs which paint such vivid scenes that it nearly places you within a specific fold of space and time are such rare feats to be achieved these days.
Miami’s Lex One is looking to change all of this with his Creole-produced single “Real Life Story,” and although he doesn’t exactly engage in story-telling mode, the slick wordsmith behind 2016’s Gold Plaque does his best to give listeners a dose of reality — brazenly showing both sides of the coin which is the rap game.
