Jay IDK’s Empty Bank album revolves around his relationship and society’s relationship as a whole with money — whether that be what we do with said money or what governmental institutions dictate the facilitation of money in our country.
Where there are moments on the project where spending money seems like a fruitful idea, “Mentality” is the antithesis of that.
He starts the song, “My paycheck just got a little bit longer — fuck it up,” pointing out people’s habits of spending money as soon as they get it. He visualizes that concept by stunting around various neighborhoods in London, where he was born before moving to the States at a young age.
