Watch The Official R-Rated Trailer For ‘Justice League Dark’

Years before Warner Bros./DC Entertainment launched their cinematic Extended Universe (which include films such as 2013’s Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and the tepid and critically panned Suicide Squad), revered film director Guillermo del Toro was in talks with WB to helm a live action film for Justice League Dark, an obscure team of superheroes/antiheroes spearheaded by John Constantine; Exorcist, Demonologist, and Master of the Dark Arts.

Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts (del Toro was to begin shooting for Pacific Rim 2 around the same time as production would have began on JLD), the Mexican-born director dropped out of the project entirely. Which is a shame, as del Toro would be the one man who could do justice (pun intended) to a live action reendition of Swamp Thing, considering his track record (Pacific Rim, Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth).

Fortunately, Warner Bros. still plans to move forward with a live action adaptation, announcing in August that director Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Swingers, Edge of Tomorrow) will be directing it under the working title Dark Universe.

Before that happens, WB will give fans a glimpse into occult magic with their R-rated animated film, Justice League Dark, with Matt Ryan reprising his role as John Constantine from the live action TV series, Jason O’Mara as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Rosario Dawson as Wonder Woman, Camilla Luddington as Zatanna, Nicholas Turturro as Deadman, Roger Cross as Swamp Thing (and the John Stewart version of Green Lantern), Jerry O’Connell as Superman, Ray Chase as Etrigan the Demon, and Enrico Colantoni as the film’s antagonist, Felix Faust.

Watch the official trailer above, and look for the straight-to-VOD release on January 24, 2017, with a physical release on February 7th.
