Aside from serving as your banger of the weekend, Ran Reed‘s newest single, “The Crew” serves as a reunion of sorts for the Paterson, NJ native, Cella Dwella’s U.G. and producer Nick Wiz.
In 1999, Ran and the Cella Dwellas collaborated on the street single “The Introduction” (released through indie label Bronx Science) with production provided by fellow Jersey native Nick Wiz (Cella Dwellas, Mad Skillz, Miilkbone, Pudgee Tha Phat Bastard).
With just under two months before Ran Reed’s 20-track Still Commanding Respect LP arrives, the veteran emcee calls on his two previous collaborators for the neck-breaking single “The Crew,” built around a sample of Das EFX’s “Real Hip-Hop” and driven by Nick Wiz’s bone-chilling boom-bap and an ear-piecing synth line which serves as the driving rhythm for the chorus.
