With all the hubbub caused by Lil Yachty’s since-rescinded comments about The Notorious B.I.G, it’s easy to get caught up in the hype of “New School versus Old School” jibba jabba. However, and as Yachty had to prove, using a clear thought process is more constructive than simply spewing off.

DJ Premier is one of hip hop’s longest-tenured and knowledgeable musicians. Following the recent comments, Primo sat down with P&P and shared his thoughts on some of the New York-based rappers of today. He praises artists like Dave East, Joey Bada$$ and Young M.A, while also being critical of the New York radio stations that he feels could do a better job in supporting the independent artists.

Primo does reveal that he has an album in the works, as well as a documentary on the closing of his beloved D&D Studios (which he shut down in 2015).
