Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine’s working and creative relationship runs back to when Dre spun off Death Row Records (owned by Iovine’s Interscope Records) and created Aftermath Entertainment — which, alongside Interscope, became one of the most successful labels in the 2000s.

The two later collaborated on making Beats headphones, whose brand was later sold to Apple for $3 billion, making Dre rap’s first billionaire. They now both have stake and positions within Apple.

Pretty much, these two have made a shit ton of money together.

A four-part documentary detailing Dre and Iovine’s relationship will arrive on HBO some time next year.

The Defiant Ones is directed by Allen Hughes (Menace II Society, Dead Presidents) and will feature interviews from Eminen, Ice Cube, Bono, David Geffen, Nas, Gwen Stefani, Tom Petty, Trent Reznor, Snoop Dogg, Bruce Springsteen, will.i.am and others, according to HBO’s press release.

The release also said there would be never-before-seen footage of recording sessions with Eazy-E, N.W.A., U2 and others.

We’ll see if this will delve into Dr. Dre’s past, like Surviving Compton did.

The documentary doesn’t have a release date yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it dropped in the first couple months of the year.
