In just a couple of months, Yasiin Bey will make his grand exit from both music and film, following his retirement announcement earlier this year, marking the official end of the Black Dante era.

This sad piece of news arrives on the heels of his dismissal from ever setting foot in South Africa again.

On Dec. 21st, Yasiin will perform at the Apollo Theater, while Dec. 31st and Jan. 2nd, 2017 will mark his final performances at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Of course, fans will be happy to know that Yasiin will release not one, or two, but three brand new albums before gracefully bowing out.

Apart from his collaborative album, Dec. 99th with producer Ferrari Shepard (recorded in South Africa), the artist formerly known as Mos Def will finally release the aptly titled As Promised (produced entirely by Mannie Fresh) and Negus In Natural Person.

A few days ago, during his performance at Art Basel Miami, Yasiin was invited to rock the stage at Smoke Signals Studio in Little Haiti, as part of Boiler Room and Saul Williams’ In Appreciation Of Lyricism showcase.

During the performance, he debuted new music, including “No Time To Pretend,” set to the backdrop of El Michels Affair’s live cover of Wu-Tang’s “C.R.E.A.M.”
