New JGivens?! You already know we’re hype.
After making his DopeHouse debut with a 2Dope To Sleep On stamp of approval in July of last year, the Cali-bread, Vegas-raised emcee went on to drop a few aural gems before fully unloading his thoughts on Fly Exam — an incredible album that offered an honest look at drug addiction, his walk with God, self-reflection, and the struggles of pride, greed, and failure.
“It’s kind of a chronicle of my life in that time period of writing it,” Givens told hhdx, “I’m doing all these shows, I got signed to Humble Beast, I’m going all over the world and doing music and people are liking it. I’m also struggling with things from the past as far as like drug abuse and addiction and stuff and how that all played out.”
Now, no longer with Humble Beast, the talented lyricist continues his journey with his first release in over a year. With his money right, faith restored, and a new outlook on life, JGivens pushed forward with “Understand.”
And while you might have to know the man on a personal level to fully understand the entire song, lines like these are chilling to the bone…
If I wasn’t rapping, baby
