Oddisee Announces ‘The Iceberg’ LP; Drops Lead Single, “Things”

Oddisee has quietly had himself a massive year. The DMV native dropped the surprise Alwasta EP (which remains one of my favorite projects this year, though we haven’t talked about it enough) and The Odd Tape — a 12-track full-length which offered as the follow-up to The Good Fight.

He then went on tour promoting those project for three months before spending the last third of the year in the studio to seemingly curate his next album: The Iceberg.

Oddisee dropped the first single from The Iceberg, which is set for a February 24 release, today.

“Things” is an upbeat dance groove deepended with its socially and politically charged lyricism of surviving being a black man in America. He notes the stresses — or, “things” — he goes through from the moment he wakes up, from how much money’s in his bank account to things more abstract like becoming a better person in pushing for a better humanity.

“We all go through the trials & tribulations of life,” Oddisee presented on Bandcamp. “Why is it we feel the need to individualize our shared experiences? If only we could see our concerns as others do, maybe they wouldn’t be so serious.”

Stream “Things” below, and pre-order The Iceberg on Bandcamp.
