In July, Ab-Soul took shots at Jay Electronica (who earlier took shots at Kendrick Lamar), which later got turned into song on “RAW (Backwards).” The song eventually landed on Do What Thou Wilt and is one of Ab’s strongest lyrical showings in recent memory.
He broke down the song – including why he came at Jay Electronica months after an apology — with Genius.
“I reference Jay Electronica as the Asiatic Black God. I am a big fan of his, and so for him to do that. Since then, he’s put out a public apology as well,” he said. “But I had wrote those lyrics before that, so we wasn’t finna delete them.”
He also detailed how the song relates to Aleister Crowley’s book, The Book of the Law, which Soulo based his album around.
