17 Bold Predictions For 2017

2016 was quite the interesting year in music. We had surprises (Beyoncé), returns (A Tribe Called Quest), breakout performances (Chance The Rapper & Anderson .Paak), the usual (Drake) and lost some of our favorite musicians to the other side (Prince, Phife, David Bowie, etc.). Now that the calendar year has turned over, what can we expect in 2017? Will Kanye West redeem himself after all the tabloid nonsense he found himself in toward the end of the year? Who will surprise us with an album? Will Remy Ma kick Nicki Minaj out of the castle?

Here are 17 bold predictions for 2017. None are to be taken seriously. But if any of these are right, you better pay me my royalties.

Nas finally releases an album
where the production matches the lyrics.

Chance The Rapper drops an official album
that cements himself as a superstar.

DoomStarks will finally see the light of day.

Childish Gambino will return to rapping
with a critically acclaimed project.

Jay Z drops a surprise album that isn’t a response to wifey’s Lemonade. Just Blaze is heavily involved and a song about his relationship with Kanye (let’s call it “Lil Brother”) sends social media into a frenzy.

Drake drops an album that focuses primarily on rapping; will be involved in a major feud with Pusha T after a particular track takes shots at everyone that’s had something to say about him.

André 3000 and Big Boi will release a couple of songs, tease an OutKast album and then vanish into thin air.

SZA’s album will have major crossover appeal
and she’ll reach pop culture status.

Kanye West doesn’t drop an album despite teasing the Drake collab and Turbo Grafix 16. But he does bring back G.O.O.D. Fridays and leaks those Madlib and Kendrick Lamar tracks that were teased a year ago.

Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole release an EP.
Both remain relatively quiet.

Lil Wayne illegally releases Tha Carter V; collaborates with Young Thug on an EP that breaks the internet.

Remy Ma drops a fire album
and buries Nicki Minaj in feud.

Pharrell has another massive single on the soundtrack of another animated film that features Anderson .Paak.

Slaughterhouse’s album drops with a lot of Eminem and sets the stage for Em to return to form in 4th quarter.

Bryson Tiller wins Grammy and propels More Life collaboration into massive year.

The Diplomats reunite for an album.
Juelz Santana finally becomes a star.

Talib Kweli, Mos Def and Hi-Tek
reunite for a Black Star project.
