We’ve know Rap Album Two was coming. Over the past couple months on both Twitter and Facebook, the former Stones Throw rapper has said he’s been working on his next rap album (and his first since 2013). The project comes after a period of relative dormancy — he’s dropped loosies here and there like “Wonka” and “That’s O.K.” and declared he retired on an EP — in which he sobered up and discovered a newfound passion for music — one that helped him get clean.

But Thursday Jonwayne made it official. We received the first bit of tangible evidence that Rap Album Two would soon see the light of day. He shared the first single, “Out of Sight,” and announced the album would drop February 17.

If you’ve gone the last three years not knowing what’s gone on in Jonwayne’s life (until he opened up about it the last year or so) or not, “Out of Sight” brings you up to speed in gorgeously calming fashion.

“Isolation slowly feeling like it’s house arrest/Bound from the scene that makes me see what my credit gets/Putting my health before career just to steer it/Had to burn a few bridges just to keep the ends mirrored,” he raps on the first verse. He follows with lines of acceptance for his past self and a determination for a sober, healthy and inclusive future, which he’s sure to expand on throughout Rap Album Two.
