Big Sean Recalls Auditioning For Kanye West On ‘The Tonight Show’

Just ahead of his debut performance on SNL later this evening, (see the promos with guest host Aziz Ansari), Big Sean was invited to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The Detroit rapper recalled his first time performing for Fallon (back when the lovable late night entertainer was still hosting Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and Sean had just released Finally Famous) while giving a much deserved shoutout to Fallon’s in-house band The Roots.

Sean Don continued to walk down memory lane, sharing his experience performing alongside big brother Kanye West in 2010, explaining that he equated being on SNL “with a certain level of success” and how the cipher looped around and completed itself.

Later in the interview, Sean, thanks to some persistent begging from Fallon, explained his “rap fairy tale” of how he met Kanye (and in case you haven’t heard the story a few hundred times), the meeting happened with a bit of luck and a whole lot of tenacious hustling.

He also explained the idea behind the artwork to his upcoming album I Decided, due out Feb. 3.
