There are artists whom you’d never expect to play NPR’s intimate, acoustic Tiny Dest Concert (see: T-Pain, Gucci Mane). But then there are bands the short concert seems like it was made for, like Canadian jazz quartet BADBADNOTGOOD.
They only played three songs — all from their latest album, IV — but they were extended, warped and improvised over the course of a 22-minute set. Starting with “And That, Too,” they moved onto “In Your Eyes,” which features Charlotte Day Wilson, and “Cashmere.”
NPR writer Bobby Carter described a performance “In Your Eyes”:
“The tight arrangement allowed Wilson to hover gently above the instrumentation, showing off the band’s most promising work to date. It was a pleasure to have BADBADNOTGOOD at the desk for IV — and exciting to imagine what’s in store for V, VI and beyond.”
