The Black Opera – “Beautiful City” (Video)

blame it on JES7 February 18, 2017

Late last year, the Detroit duo known as The Black Opera (Jamall Bufford and Magestik Legend) quietly released their fourth studio album, African America, which may have flown outside of the radars of a few heads.

The 14-track project — with contributions from Magestik Legend and 14KT — is a compelling concept album which perfectly cites the idea that “African America is the promised land of freedom.”

A few days ago, TBO premiered their latest video, “Beautiful City” on CNN, which makes sense as Deepak Chopra has been quoted as saying The Black Opera “is one of his favorite hip hop groups.”

The KEEMO-directed video covers the issues of “poor schools” in the inner cities of Detroit, while directly targeting Betsy DeVos, Secretary of Education who, as “an advocate for school choice, believes that parents — not the government — should be able to choose where to send their children to school” with the video serving as a sign of hope for the children of Detroit.

The video demonstration for ‘Beautiful City’ is a depiction of city pride, finding beauty in the smallest details, and what gentrification can do to a city… it’s more about the people you love in whatever city you call home. That’s the true beauty of a city.
