Lorde returned last week with “Green Light,” the first single off her next album Melodrama and her first new song in three years. Keeping the re-upped momentum going, Lorde offers her second track in as many weeks, “Liability.” She also revealed her new album will drop in more than three months on June 16.

The song was premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show, and Lorde said it was influenced by Rihanna’s “Higher.” (It’s a complete juxtaposition of “Green Light.”)

“I was in this cab alone listening to “Higher” by Rihanna because Anti had just come out,” Lorde told Lowe. “And I had a little cry and I was just like ‘it’s always going to be this way, at some point with everyone it’s going to be this way.’ But the song kind of ended up turning into a bit of a protective talismans for me. I was like, you know what, I’m always gonna have myself so I have to really nurture this relationship and feel good about hanging out with myself and loving myself.”
