Buzzing DMV artist Sheik Kargbo is one of a handful of promising artists who are reigning in a new renaissance era, focused on not just writing his own raps, but perfecting his own production. It just makes sense, especially for an enterprising artist like himself, who knows what sounds will work best for his output.
Hailing from the Northern Virginia city of Alexandria, Sheik has laid out plans to release The Speakeasy Experience on May 12th, with the entire project’s production being handled by himself. The album is rumored to be deeply enveloped in harmonious soul, contrasted with his previous body of work, Rock n’ Roll Voodoo.
Before he presents his pièce de résistance, Sheik hand delivers an appetizer with his “New Neighbors” video, featuring the sultry vocals of Miriam. Framed, shot and directed by Aye Waiter, the picturesque music video mixes in devastating headlines and tragic footage from around the world, while an audio clip from Meadow Soprano plays throughout the intro, before his bouncy, minimal production lays down the foundation for Sheik to get his condensed thoughts across.
