As we approach the year anniversary of The Persona Tape, Maxo Kream is still hard at work on a proper follow up.

Closing out last year with a couple videos (“Out The Front Door,” “Smoke Break“) and guest features (The Cool Kids’ “Running Man“), the Houston native kicked off 2017 with a brand new song called “Grannies.”

“I made this song so people could understand me. A lot of my fans are in the white hipster internet crowd,” told Complex. “They like my music, but they don’t know why I say certain shit. They can’t relate to it. ‘Grannies’ describes a typical scene at my Grandma’s place which is where I lived after mom and dad kicked me out when I was 14 or 15 years old. Everything I said in that song, niggas know. Ain’t no secret, it’s real.”

Today, the introspective track gets a matching video with Maxo posted up in his neighborhood with friends and family. Directed by Nasser Boulaich, check it out below.
