As the rap world awaits confirmation of Lil Wayne’s claims that he’s signed to Roc Nation, the massive media company, helmed by JAY Z made an announcement a few days ago that they have signed American social activist and CNN commentator Van Jones.

Jones, a Yale-educated, non-practicing attorney and host of CNN’s The Messy Truth revealed why he aligned himself with Roc Nation in an official press release:

Roc Nation stands for excellence, innovation and impact, and I am proud to join the family. To make positive change in today’s world, we must close the gaps that exist between artists and activists … cultural leaders and political leaders … taste-makers and changemakers. This partnership opens up the opportunity to do that on a global scale. It’s a bold, unprecedented move. And I’m both humbled and excited by the possibilities.

The former Obama adviser and author of The Green Collar Economy also serves as President of The Dream Corps, which houses social activist initiatives such as #YesWeCode and #cut50, and has been tapped as the “2017 commencement keynote speaker for Morehouse College.”

JAY Z welcomed Van Jones into the Roc Nation fold, commenting:

Van’s immense capacity for empathy builds bridges. He inspires dialogue and only through conversation and active listening, can true change occur. Roc Nation is honored to support and amplify every initiative.
