Coby Obi (fka Cobe Obeah) may have committed to an overhaul of his name, but the Inglewood artist still possesses the same otherworldly sound fans have come to love and appreciate over the past seven years.
Known for taking year-long lulls in between releases (or “self-induced hibernation,” as he labels them), Coby returns in 2017 with his latest project, I Carbon: (The Prelude). The 7-track EP finds Coby waxing metaphysically over beats from J Dilla, Madlib and Ratatat, plus a few original productions from his own in-house beatsmiths.
Dubbed as a “conceptual demo tape,” I Carbon is described as “a prelude of songs in a series format,” adding that the EP is like a “poetic “prologue” for his next short project which continues from where the prelude finishes.”
