Pharrell Receives Honorary Doctorate From NYU

In recent weeks, students at the historically black Bethune-Cookman University booed and literally turned their backs on Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, while Will Ferrel serenaded USC’s graduating class with a rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.”

Pharrell was the commencement speaker for New York University’s graduating glass. Williams, who was also an artist in residence at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2016, also received of an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts degree from the college.

In his ten-minute speech, P gave an empowering speech addressing a need for more “visual activists.” He ended things with, “There is no humanity without education, and there is no education without humanity.”
