Over the years, Detroit’s Slum Village has seen several lineup changes. In 2017, the long-standing group now consists of two members: T3 of the original trio and producer Young RJ. RJ — son of Detroit singer RJ Rice — will release his solo debut album titled Blaq Royalt, a reference to his alias Black Royalty, later this year.

Though details are slim on the new project, it’s been announced that BJ The Chicago Kid will make an appearance on a song called “Issues.”

“Creating my first solo project gives me a different sense of freedom, although my music is based on the Slum Village philosophy of sound, people will now get insight into one of the men behind the music,” says RJ in a press statement.

To warm things up, Young RJ explores the pitfalls of social media and mainstream media, and the consequential corruption of the youth who eat these things up everyday in is video for “Huh?!”
