Cardo Reveals Drake, ScHoolboy Q & More Received “goosebumps” Beat

Multiple artists getting the same instrumental is a hip hop practice as old as time. Ras Kass had Alchemist‘s flip of Samuel Jonathan Johnson’s “My Music” first (as “Home Sweet Home“), before it became Jadakiss’ “We Gonna Make It,” for example.

As it turns out, the instrumental for “goosebumps” wasn’t only Travi$ Scott‘s as well.

Recently an unsanctioned leak, PARTYNEXTDOOR and Jeremih‘s “Don’t Tell Me” (perhaps from their since-shelved album Late Night PARTY), surfaced, which featured the familiar chords of “goosebumps.” DJBooth reached out to the song’s producer, Cardo, he reveals that La Flame was one of eight people who ultimately may have had that beat.

Only three to four people had that beat,” Cardo told us via text. “That was Drake, ScHoolboy Q, Future —don’t know if he ever got it — Rihanna and I sent it to Young Thug as well.”

With that variety, that song could have gone in any direction musically. Ultimately, once Travi$ got a hold of it, he grabbed Kendrick Lamar on it and the rest is Platinum-certified history.
