Malik Ninety Five – ‘Playlist: 002’ (EP)

blame it on JES7 June 18, 2017

Proudly representing The Big Easy, rising singer-producer Malik Ninety Five is taking careful steps to keep the signature NOLA-bounce sound intact, while adding an easier, more palatable millennial flavor to his music.

All through late 2016 and early 2017, Malik delivered three new singles: “Link Up,” “Right Now,” and “Need To Know” which ended up as a part of his Playlist: 001 EP.

The idea of projects — whether full-length albums or EPs — being labeled as “playlists” can largely be attributed to Drake‘s More Life. For Malik, the concept of his playlists is a way to “help bring some innovation to the way [he] presents [his] craft,” explaining “Rather than one project, I’d prefer to structure the way I rollout my music as more like a bunch of mini-projects that I plan on continuing to release well into next year…and beyond.”

Take a listen to Playlist: 002 below and catch the New Orleans artist performing at the Voodoo Festival in The Big Easy through Oct. 27th-29th, with a bill which includes Kendrick Lamar, Miguel, Foo Fighters and more.
