Justo & Showbiz (of D.I.T.C.) Deliver ‘Black Ops’ LP

blame it on JES7 June 24, 2017

Earlier this week, we introduced you to Brooklyn native Justo who linked up with a few OGs of the game: D.I.T.C.‘s Showbiz, DJ Premier and DJ Vic Black of Gang Starr Foundation, whom all made cameo appearances in the video for “The Council.”

Speaking of DJ Premier, the Brooklynite has taken similar approaches to the revered Gang Starr producer, choosing to abide by the one-producer, one-emcee rule that was heavily applied in the 80s and early 90s (LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Jeru the Damaja, Raekwon, GZA… you get the picture).

In 2015, Justo released 7-1-Ocho, which was produced entirely by Mexican beat maestro Ocho Vazquez. Today, he returns with his latest project, Black Ops with D.I.T.C. producer extraordinaire Showbiz sitting at the boards across 11 tracks.

Despite being solely produced by Showbiz, Black Ops is meant to be more than just your typical 90s throwback album. Justo is keen on showmanship, choosing to embrace the true meaning of the word “MC” in light of most music seemingly lacking substances these days. “I want people to experience the raw, unfiltered nature of the record and take this journey with me, back to a time when what you said actually mattered more than how much 808 is on your beat,” Justo said in a press statement.
