Preceded by actor Jessie Williams in 2016, Chance The Rapper received the BET Humanitarian Award during the 2017 BET Awards.

Chance was presented the award for his philanthropic and societal improvements over the last year. Chance has consistently been a positive voice for the community, having a direct line to mayor’s office in Chicago and even the White House while Barack Obama lived there.

The likes of Muhammad Ali, Al Sharpton, Don Cheadle, Magic Johnson and Dwyane Wade have won the award. Jesse Williams was honored with the award last year.

Back in March, Chance donated $1 million to Chicago Public Schools after meetings with the governor of Illinois for more funding fell apart. He was also recently named to TIME’s list of most influential people in the world.

Chano also won the BET Award for Best New Artist, as well.
