Take A Groovy Ride With Calvin Harris’ ‘Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1’ LP

blame it on Meka June 29, 2017

Keep it real: some of you have never cared for a Calvin Harris album until now.

We don’t blame you, either. Following 2007’s I Created Disco and 2009’s Ready for the Weekend, Calvin’s music shifted dramatically to cater to the then-popular world of EDM music. Calvin would then go on to produce massive hits for Rihanna (“We Found Love”), Ellie Goulding (“I Need Your Love”) and others, becoming one of the world’s highest-paid DJs.

Now, with the growing whispers of EDM’s decline in popularity, Harris returned to the “nu-disco” roots of his first two albums with Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1. And, once again, keep it real: some of you have never cared for a Calvin Harris album until you heard “Slide” for the first time. To prove it wasn’t a fluke, he grabbed Pharrell, Young Thug and Ariana Grande for “Heatstroke,” then sourced Future and Khalid for “Rollin’” and Pharrell, Katy Perry and Big Sean for “Feels.”

Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 also includes D.R.A.M., ScHoolboy Q, Travis Scott, A-Trak, Snoop Dogg, John Legend, Kehlani and much more. And, judging from the previews, the album looks to make for a funky ride during the summer. Some of us (this writer included) never cared for a Calvin Harris album prior to Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, and that’s totally fine because you’ll likely care about this one.
