Wizkid Arrives With First American LP, ‘Sounds From The Other Side’

Spoiler alert: Wizkid is the original Starboy, having had that nickname for years before The Weeknd named his third album that.

Wiz has been one of the most popular musicians in Nigeria, but it wasn’t until his contribution to Drake‘s massively successful “One Dance” in 2016 which formally introduced him stateside (this marked their second collaboration; Drake, along with Skepta, remixed Wizkid’s “Ojuelegba” in 2015). Having signed a deal with Sony Music Entertainment/RCA Records, he has now released his first American project (and third album overall), Sounds From The Other Side.

Lead by the groovy “Come Closer,” which once again features Drake, Wiz collaborates with the likes of Major Lazer (on “Naughty Ride“), Ty Dolla $ign (who appears on two songs), Chris Brown and Trey Songz throughout the 12 tracks of Sounds. With the revival of African and Caribbean-inflected music going strong, Wiz has the potential to be as huge in the States as he already is in Africa.
