Kendrick Lamar is out here doing good for the community like many other rappers.
Kendrick jumpstarted his string DAMN. pop up shops in Dallas on Friday. While there, he changed one fan’s life forever with a new gift.
A woman named Jennifer Phillips has been a quadriplegic since a crash in 2007 cause severe damage to her spine. That hasn’t stopped her from going to plenty of concerts, including eight of Kendrick Lamar’s and plenty more from Top Dawg Entertainment artists, she said on her Instagram.
Last year, though, Phillips started a GoFundMe page for a new modified van to help her get around. Her current van wouldn’t run in the rain, had no heat or air conditioning, loose headlights and plenty more problems. She raised a couple thousand dollars as of last week, but (you see where this is heading) Kendrick Lamar and TDE took it upon themselves to take care of the whole thing.
In addition to the van, Kendrick gave Phillips a signed DAMN. t-shirt and a custom Dallas Mavericks jersey with DUCKWORTH on the back.
“I was a big fan of music and concerts before my injury but I never supported and loved a label like theirs before,” she said in an Instagram post. “Of course they have great music but they are also great people. None of them have ever treated me like a stranger or a charity case.”
I thank God for @kendricklamar & @TopDawgEnt
