Rhythm Roulette w/ DJ Khalil

blame it on Patrick Glynn July 20, 2017

DJ Khalil has been making hits for a decade, just this year appearing behind the boards on songs like Big Boi’s “Mic Jack,” A$AP Ferg’s “East Coast” and Joey Bada$$’s “Amerikkkan Idol.” He’s also the latest contestant on Mass Appeal’s Rhythm Roulette challenge, trying to produce a good beat from sampling three randomly chosen records.

Hitting up The Artform Studios in Los Angeles, Khalil came out with The Doors’ The Soft Parade, Congragation’s Softly Whispering I Love You and Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band’s You’re So Beautiful. So a nice mix of 70s soul and rock to work with.

Check out what Khalil whips up (spoiler: it’s rock-based — “I needed to get some aggression out,” he said) below.
