There’s been a ton of music that’s dropped over the last month or so, and one song that’s stuck out to me is “Blu” by Mura Masa, the closing song from his debut, self-titled album. It’s a collaboration with Damon Albarn, whom many of you know as the mastermind behind the Gorillaz.
“Blu” is an emotional, melodic and soft-spoken love song that digs into Mura Masa’s dependence on someone he’s in love with, exploring the weird feeling of being so dependent on someone else, you feel somewhat helpless.
The two were able to get together in a studio and perform the song after months of passing music back and forth for each others’ albums. Though Mura Masa didn’t ultimately land on Humanz, Albarn helped close out his album, and I for one am thankful for that.
