In the past few years, South Central, L.A. has produced a number of well-established artists, essentially ringing in a New West Coast sound. Artists like RJ, Jay 305, G Perico and TDE’s ScHoolboy Q have become mainstays here at the House of Dope.

The latest to pop up is rising South Central’s Sham1016 — filmmaker/rapper who just last year, released the documentary Charge it to the Game: The Short Documentary which explored the culture of gangbanging in Los Angeles, and how it’s evolved over the past four decades.

Despite growing up in the notorious neighborhood, Sham has managed to do extraordinary things for himself, including being accepted into the historic and prestigious Georgetown University to get his masters degree in communications.

With a new album, VRTGO in the works with L.A. producer Corey G, Sham introduces himself with a two-part single: “Hood Rat” and “Extras.”
