Although his early material was riddled with emptied clips and closed caskets, Mozzy has become more level-headed and reflective when it comes to his more recent albums, like 2016’s Beautiful Struggle and Mandatory Check, and Fake Famous from earlier this year.
“Once upon a time, I didn’t talk about nothing but murder, selling drugs, and crazy shit,” he explains. “If you listen to my music now, it’s about the consequences of this shit.”
After falling back into go-mode with Gunplay on their Dreadlocks & Headshots project, the SacTown native is ready to continue his growth with his next album, 1 Up Top Ahk, on August 18th via Mozzy Records and EMPIRE.
Kicking things off earlier this month with “Afraid,” Mozzy keeps it coming with “Momma We Made It” that features a welcomed appearance from the big homie Jay Rock.
