Who Had The Best Verse In July?

blame it on Shake August 1, 2017

Lyricism is the backbone of hip hop. Although there are a ton of rappers who aren’t saying a gotdamn thing, there are those who are exceptionally gifted at putting words together over a beat. And with so many songs dropping during any given month, we feel that those rhymes that combine lyrical dexterity and cleverness with verbal gymnastics should be celebrated. Enter: Verse Of The Month.

This month, Lloyd Banks blew through a Nas classic during his Hot97 freestyle, Vic Mensa resurrected and reburied Kendrick Lamar’s “HiiiPower” during a freestyle on Sway in the Morning, Skyzoo was a wizard with the wordplay on “Short Money” (hell, he did his thing on every track off his Peddler Themes EP), Rapsody broke down “The Pain” of many, Bun B returned in a big way on “Gametime,” and Joyner Lucas ran through Kendrick’s “DNA” like a complete savage. This month was cookin!
