Despite the negative reputation rap music receives when rapper’s “glorify” violence, many outside critics are oblivious to the inner-workings of what makes an artist’s mind tick, and the stories actually being told in their music. JAY-Z said it best.
For Chicago’s Lil Durk, who just a week ago released Supa Vultures with long-time collaborator and friend Lil Reese, a history of ups and downs is said to have inspired the album’s only solo single, “Nobody Knows.”
For the song’s official video, Durk explained in a statement that it was inspired by a laundry list of “Things people wouldn’t realize that [he] deal[s] with,” including the deaths of close friends and doing all he can to give his children the life they deserve. “The song is actually dedicated to one of my close friends I lost this past summer, it’s a snippet of him actually on the song. I made this song with a heavy heart.”
