DJ Premier is essentially the reason I decided I didn’t want to follow in my uber-Nigerian footsteps and enter the field of medicine, law, engineering or scamming.
That last option is still on the table, however. But, I digress.
Chris Martin was a recent guest for Genius‘ Genius Level interview series, where he spoke in depth about the life and times of his illustrious career. For an hour he shared stories about the late Guru (he revealed that Gang Starr‘s Step in the Arena single “Just To Get A Rep” was partially inspired by Guru getting car-jacked), his experiences with the likes of Nas (he shares a dope story about the creation of “N.Y. State Of Mind”), JAY-Z and The Notorious B.I.G, bucket list artists (“I’m sure [Kendrick Lamar] will happen one day”), and more. He even speaks on the long-in-the-works posthumous Gang Starr project, as well.
This is definitely worth your attention.
