After picking up a soul mix, Ester Phillips’ For All We Know and Afro Latin Soul by Mulatu Astatke and his Ethiopian Quintet, Carmack quickly got to work making sure he used every bit of his final beat from records. And when I say everything, I mean everything, down to the kick drum and all.
